I decided to import my posts from my other blog, The Ancient Paths Family Farm, over here and close down the other blog. I hadn’t posted there in over a year and there were only a few entries that I wanted to save anyway. Here there is one new page called Our Farm which has an attached page called The Benefits of Grass Fed Meat.
And today I was directed to a good article called Would Jesus Go Green? I appreciated and enjoyed the article and I imagine that many of my readers will too. I also put a link to this article in my sidebar.
I’ve still got a bit of tweaking to my blog to do, but I’m short on time. I also have several entries that I want to finish – about the future of our Messianic movement and how on earth are we going to get there, introductions to four or five of Messianic Jewish rabbis from 100 years ago or more, and a post with instructions for making tinctures and a comparison between brewing the tinctures in sunlight vs the dark.
But for now, I’ll post a quick update on family life:
I can see blueberries again!! The garden asiles are almost ALL weeded and the squash that was taking over the blueberries has been cut back. In a week or two all the berries should be in the freezer (or in our bellies) and I’ll let the squash take over again if it “wants to”. The garden is totally impressive – our best ever so far! I’m a little puzzled that some of the seeds I planted 2 months ago are starting to come up now. Of course I had given up on them and went ahead and planted other things in those places. It’ll work out well, though, for a late season harvest. I plan to plant some new things for a later harvest in the next few weeks so those are things I don’t have to worry about. :) The girls and I have been able to make a lot of raspberry and strawberry freezer jam and put up a bunch of berries for use over the rest of the year. I’m hoping to get more raspberries soon, they’re my favorite.
My paternal Grandpa turned 90 this past weekend and we had a little dinner party for him. My maternal Grandmother turns 85 next month, too. I’m so blessed that they are doing well and continuing to live life well.
I registered Miriam for classes at the college this week. *gasp* She passed all the entrance exams with flying colors, I was pleased. We just have to tweak her class schedule a little and we’ll be set. May the summer never end!!! I’m not so sure I’m going to adjust to my daughter being in college very well, not yet at least.
The storage room is finished, I’ll have to post an entry on that too. The only trouble is that the room is still a little too warm. I can’t get it below 60* right now but I am sure that it’ll be cooler in the winter. My collection of dried herbs is growing each day. I collect the ready flowers and such most mornings. My dehydrator has been running non-stop for over 2 months now.
And now that the basement is almost done (the freezers are being moved down there from the garage in hopes that they will run better, last longer and not cost us so much to maintain), it’s time to set up the Succah down there and paint the murals we picked out last year. Since the wind took our Succah away last fall, it will need some repairs as well. I’m really excited about the mural though. :)
Yesterday Miriam had another shearing job for “I don’t know, there’s at least 3 sheep out there”. We arrived to find two angora bucks with several years worth of matted fleece and really bad feet. But they had such great personalities and good temperments so it was much nicer than we had anticipated. And Miriam was handsomely paid for all of her work. She took me out for an ice cream cone afterwards. Yum!
Other than waking up at 5 AM most mornings and working till dinner as late as 9:30 some days, I feel great. Well, I did oh-so-gracefully trip uphill and skin up my shins on some metal corner pieces last night as we were showing our horses to some prospective buyers. That was rather embarrassing and messy. LOL But it was funny, you have to admit. Just picture it, you’ll laugh along with us.
5:00 am………hmnmmm, that is really early. Not for my hubby though, he has to be at work by 4:00am on Mon and 6:00 the rest of the week. Needless to say, I don’t see him untill he gets home.
Hi Lisa,
Just wondering what brand of food dehydrator you use. We are resting our land this year, but I enjoy reading about what’s happening in yours.

5 is early! And I am by nature an evening person. However, I have learned that I do much better when I get up early and get moving right away. My whole day goes better. If I sleep in or have a slow start to the day, it’s really hard to be productive. Still, I really enjoy a late night once in a while – to read or work on whatever little project I’ve got going.

I got my dehydrator at a garage sale and there are no markings on it, unless there’s name on the bottom somewhere. I think I paid $5 for it a few years ago.
We let our land rest last year to keep in tune with the shemittah year. It wasn’t our seventh year in this house and our land was all raw virgin land when we built, but not only did it need a year off already but we wanted to be in tune with greater Israel, even if we’re not in the Land ourselves.
Blessings ~
Lisa
